Christina Marie Klein’s 24th Street Archive is a reactivation of San Francisco’s visual history with nightly projections along storefronts of 24th street today. The project’s goal is pure engagement of viewers outside the traditional gallery setting. Klein connects viewer’s present surroundings with archival images from the same location as sourced through the SF Main Public Library’s Historical Photo Collection. In addition to this literal connection, the project will develop its own contemporary archive through documentation of 24th Street’s present moment to give back to the SF Main Public Library Historical Photo Collection. Linked documentation creating a conversation of present and past, fostering awareness and contemplation of space and time is Klein’s key inspiration for this project.
